Garmin-iPhone-iPad

When it comes to maps, I admit I am a mapalcoholic . I have bought just every routing or geocaching applications iTunes has for the iPhone or iPad and downloaded the rest for free. I get my wife to drive and I plan a route to wal-mart just to practice. The iPhone applications are very good and the iPad is better but BaseCamp keeps my Nuvi on the windshield the Dakota (Oregon for my wife) my choice for geocaching. I spend more time with BaseCamp organizing and planning than I spend traveling to unknown campgrounds or geocaching.

If Garmin made a an application for the iPhone and iPad to compete with TomTom and the others I would probable buy the app but I am sure it would not replace the Nuvi or get much use after the new wore off. I have looked at upgrading my Nuvi 750 (point being if I did not have a Nuvi I would buy on today) but I don't want to loose my lifetime City Navigator update. Garmin needs to rethink the lifetime maps with not transfer for device upgrades.

If Garmin made BaseCamp for iPad, Garmin could sell BC as an stand alone navigation system with City navigator maps. I would need it to communicate (blue tooth) with my garmin device and continue to use Basecamp on the iPad as a planning tool from the passenger's seat. I use my MBP now but it is awkward because I have to plug my forerunner in the usb port, save a waypoint on the forerunner and move the waypoint to Basecamp to get my current location.

I would like to see google map search added to BaseCamp. In fact I would like to see google map searches added to the current BaseCamp with the ability to add finds to BaseCamp as waypoints. This feature is not a replacement for POI but would be an additional resource for times your are connected.
