If BaseCamp offered a hiking mode that customized the way BaseCamp works, what would you want it to do?

We need your feedback, but in order to get it in a way that allows us to better priorities features we need you to follow the following guidelines.
Please list two things you would want the mode to do or change. You may only list the 2 most important items, any more and the post will be deleted.

Also, please list 1 or 2 things that you currently like about the latest BaseCamp release so we know what should stay the same.

Delete routes, tracks and waypoints from my Oregon like I can do with the Dakota. Could this be done with a firmware update to the Oregon?

Waypoint tagging, like to mark a waypoint as hiking only, not for hiking, or both. Also ability to tag on things like function (water source, natural landmark, man-made landmark, trailhead), and general area (hikes in Texas, hikes in Oklahoma)
  • Not much comes to mind that requires a specific "mode", but:
    • Better elevation statistics and profiling (total, not net, gain and loss between two points on the elevation profile or across the entire route, waypoint names in the profile display). As a hiker gross elevation change is important to me since I'm personally handling all of that elevation change myself!
    • Overlay map support for vector as well as raster maps. (I.e. I can enable both my 3rd-party trail map as well as my Topo 24K maps). In both 2-D and 3-D of course. :)

Better elevation tools would make BaseCamp a much more useful tool for planning and reviewing trips.

    1. When planning a hiking activity I often use a lot of BC functions so If you are going to implement a "profiles" system I'd like a general profile with complete BC functionality. (no need to switch form "profiles" for having this or that funcion enabled.)

    2. "center on map" check-box in the track panel (as we can find in the route panel) could be useful for a better experience reviewing a track.

I really like all BC functions.

I forgot to include the things that I like. :)

BaseCamp has proven to be a very solid and very useful program for me. Having used a number of similar programs (NatGeo's TOPO! and DeLorme's Topo USA!), I find BaseCamp to be pretty fast and responsive and pretty good for planning and reviewing trips. And it's Mac-native!

While I could go on and on about ways to make it better and more useful for me, it's worth saying that the Mac BaseCamp team has produced a very usable and very useful piece of software. At least IMHO.
