If BaseCamp offered a motorcycle mode that customized the way BaseCamp works, what would you want it to do?

We need your feedback, but in order to get it in a way that allows us to better priorities features we need you to follow the following guidelines.
Please list two things you would want the mode to do or change. You may only list the 2 most important items, any more and the post will be deleted.

Also, please list 1 or 2 things that you currently like about the latest BaseCamp release so we know what should stay the same.

    Things to change:
    1. behave like MapSource (or make an option to do so) in storing things in a directory, not in a database. When making a trip I want to keep everything together, GPS info, Spreadsheets, Documents, PDF's, HTML-pages, Photo's,and other files.
Photo's don't belong in a database somewhere hidden. They belong where the data is, not the database. You can put links in the database, not the Photo's. Now when I want to include the Photo's in documents, I need to have them twice on the system.
For the trip I cannot order people to have the same GPS and certainly not have the same map, (I can't look into their wallet). So it happens I need to make the trip available for current and older maps and store them on disk, also different type of maps NT / NTU.
When I have been on the trip and want to make a movie, I need the video in the same directory (subdir). The project information belongs also in this directory, not in VIRB Edit's database. When I'm finished with the clip, I want to put this directory and store it on a CD, DVD, BD tape or whatever. Than I want to delete this directory clearing all information about this trip from my system.
Currently I need to clear a directory with files, the Basecamp Database for GPS files and delete the double set of photo's, than I also have to delete things in VIRB Edit.
These databases make life unneccessery complicated.
    2. see above

    Good things:
    1. it can read .FIT files.

Not related to Basecamp but very handy:

A forum index for Zumo's, Nuvi's etc. There is nothing in the Garmin Forums.

Can be a quick fix :)

While BaseCamp is never going to go to the document model, you can do much if not all of what you want to do by using different libraries. Using Preferences->Advanced you can create different libraries of your data and chose where to store it.

Long time BaseCamp users will remember that this is exactly what BaseCamp used to do, but when we had to sandbox BaseCamp to remain on the App Store, this was a required change. We complained loudly to Apple about this required degradation of user experience to no avail. We are hoping that Apple will loosen some of the sandboxing requirements in the future.

Thanks for that little Gem. Excellent !
Now just have to work out how to make BaseCamp use a single map region in its data base.
    Cheers
  • A pro tip on Libraries: If you double click on the library in Finder, BaseCamp will load it. You can use that to switch libraries while already running or to start BaseCamp with that library.

That's one of the features I appreciate most about BaseCamp. My Database Aliases are in my Dock.
