Crash on "Send to GPS"

After creating a route in Basecamp, I am trying to send it to my edge 800. If I send it to the removable SD card, nothing happens - no file or information is transferred. If I send it to the internal memory of the Garmin, Basecamp crashes. The file is sent to the "New Files" folder on the Garmin, however. Once on the 800, the route is accessible and looks like it will work as expected.

Also, I learned in another thread that I can add a route file the the "new files" folder on the Garmin device and it will be converted to a .fit file when the device is restarted. If I export a gpx file from Basecamp to either the SD card or the internal memory "new files" folder, this works as advertised. However if I export a TCX file from Basecamp, this does not work - the file is simply removed from the folder and no .fit file is created. Is the .fit file created by Basecamp not compatible with the edge 800, or have I misunderstood how this should work?

What are you trying to export in the TCX file that can't be exported in a GPX file? TCX files don't contain routes or waypoints, so if you are exporting those you should stick with GPX.

Well, that explains it then! I read on this thread that TCX files may be a better way to transfer routes to the edge 800... Like others I would like to use turn-by-turn navigation on the 800, but be able to control whether or not the unit recalculates the route if I get a little off. The referenced thread led me to believe that TCX files might be the answer.

And sorry for posting a new thread on the BaseCamp crashing - didn't catch the other one. Is manually transferring a GPX file the best way to transfer a route to the 800 until this bug gets fixed?

    Thanks, azdrmn.
  • TCX will transfer courses, which is unique to fitness devices, but it isn't a route. Only Training Center can create courses by converting an activity either yours or someone else's. Only BaseCamp can create routes, but you will need to export them as GPX for the 800 to receive them.

Yes, in the meantime, probably the best way to send routes and waypoints to your 800 is by exporting them directly into the "NewFiles" directory.

Great - thanks for the clarification, azdrmn - will-do on the file transfer.
