Select all the tracks in the order you want to combine them (Cmd click), right click on all three and select "Combine Tracks". You can also copy/paste track points between tracks in the track property window.

    thank you that helped....

i did successfully connect all tracks only problem is; there is a straight line between the 2 respective start points. not the end of the world but a lil sloppy, and annoying.

is it possible to have a clean finished product, without the unwanted and for my purposes useless track line connecting those starting points ??

    thanks -matt
  • I just want to make sure I understand your point. You want to join the tracks, but not have them be connected? Tracks have always been a set of connected track points in Garmin software, but we are looking into changing that with the concept of track segments.

The problem in your case is many people do want joined tracks to be connected.

my scenario was this: i had downloaded two tracks for one trail network separated only by a road running through the middle. one track for each side of the road. the starting point was not at this particular road for both users. so what i ended up with (when connected) was a straight line running between the 2 starting points. a useless "as the crow flies" line if you will.

this again was not the end of the world, but i had tried connecting a trail system that was saved as individual tracks and it turns into a real mess. too many extra lines connecting beginnings and ends. those lines not necessarily being trails.

joined and connected sounds the same to me. i'm not sure what the difference is.

    I use MapSource.
I can put as many separate, unconnected tracks as I want in one file.

You can not just select the tracks and click on "Join selected tracks" when the dates and times are not sequential.

You need to make sure that each track is going the correct direction so that you are connecting the end of the FIRST one to the beginning of the SECOND one. If the end and beginning are far apart then they will be connected with a long straight line.

If you only have 2 tracks then check the other ends. If they are close together then invert whichever tracks to make one end there and the other start there. There will be small directional arrows on each track telling you it's direction.

To join the tracks you double click the SECOND track.
    Copy all the trackpoints.
    Click "cut".
    Double click the FIRST track.
Scroll to the very bottom of the trackpoint list and right click on <end>
    Click Paste.

It erases the SECOND track and you are done.
You will have joined or connected 2 tracks into one continuous track.

To clean up a mess of many tracks is just a more complicated version of 2 tracks.
I go thru and determine the order I want to connect the parts and number eack track 01, 02, 03, etc.
Then I go thru and set the directions so it goes the way I want.
Then if I have topo that shows trails or roads where there are missing parts I draw new tracks and number them into the order 02a, 05a, whatever.
Then I start with the SECOND track just like above, then the THIRD pasted into the FIRST, then the FOURTH pasted into the FIRST, etc.

When finished all the little parts will be gone and you will have one continuous track.

MapSource sounds like a pretty neat program. What I actually need to do is mark some wetland areas and display them as a layer on my map file. I'm using the Oregon 650.

In lieu of the right mouse button try using CONTROL+Mouse-Click after you use COMMAND+Mouse-click to select both files at the same time. You should see the Context menu open containing the options you need.

EDIT: You also need to update BaseCamp. 4.2.4 is the latest stable Mac version I think.

I have a track that has a section that has the position about a half mile off course. I was able to split up the track into three sections ("the beginning," "the end," "the wrong") but now i need to move the entire "wrong" section to its correct position. How do i move a track on the map to a new position? I really don't want to have to move each individual point since there are a lot. Once i can get the "wrong" section in the right location, i can merge all three back together to make the track the way it's supposed to be. But you know, this could all be avoided if my fenix had just RECORDED IT CORRECTLY. Thanks for any help.

    Hello Oasmith,

Attach all 3 files to another post here and someone will try to move your "wrong" section with the Fit File Repair Tool.

Thanks, i ended up moving all the individual points manually (took some time), but i will definitely remember this for the next time it happens. Thanks!
