If you are reading this post you probable want to use BaseCamp with your new Garmin. For me the purchase options makes a big difference. Having to plug my GPS into the computer to see the maps is not an option I want to deal with and it was easy for me to avoid.
For my Nuvi, I registered the Nuvi, called support and they sent me a City Navigator DVD for $10. I later purchased a life time update for city navigator and the downloaded maps installs on my computer.
When I bought the Oregon, I purchased the model without the maps. The dealer sold me a DVD and an Oregon for the same price as the 300t which includes the same maps on the DVD.
