Transfer BirdsEye from Mac to Oregon 450t

I have been unable to transfer any BirdsEye Imagery to the 16GB microSDHC card in my Oregon 450t, using BaseCamp v. 3.0.2 on my Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.6.4. I have tried with the card in the Oregon, and also with the card in a fast USB 2 card reader. (It does have a Garmin folder with a GarminDevice.xmi file in it.)

I had no trouble downloading the Imagery to my computer (although it took a long time!), But when I try to "Send to GPS..." the little gear to the left of my "Oregon 450t..." in the "My Devices" panel begins to spin and the blue and white "Sending..." bar in the "Garmin GPS Transfer" box begins to revolve, but it never changes to a blue progress bar, even after many hours. It should not take 24 hours to transfer a 70MB image, should it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Has anyone successfully transferred BirdsEye Imagery from a Macintosh to an SD card (or to internal memory) using BaseCamp software?

If so, how did you do it?
  • What you are doing should work. In BaseCamp, try dragging the BirdsEye image from a folder on your computer to your GPS. The only variable is the actual 16GB microSDHC card. If you have a different card, you might try trying that. If you continue to have issues, I would suggest calling customer support so they can help you with your specific issue.

Where would I find the BirdsEye image on my Macintosh? I have searched all the likely places and have not found any .jnx files. Even though all the imagery shows up in the left pane of BaseCamp and displays on the BaseCamp map.

I'm pretty sure my 16GB card is OK. It has maps on it that show up in the Oregon just fine. But no BirdsEye images. It's a SanDisk.

Have others been successful at transferring BirdsEye to the Oregon using only the Mac version of BaseCamp?
  • Drag it from the left panel of BaseCamp. When you plug in your oregon in the usb port, the memory card should mount under my devices. I have either a 2 gb or 4 gb card that works fine with Mac BC and Birdseye in my oregon

That's one thing I didn't try! I just used the "Transfer to GPS..." (both the icon and the right-click dropdown menu) and neither of those worked. I'll try the click-and-drag trick next time.

    Thanks for the helpful response!

The drag-and-drop method (using icons in the left panel of BaseCamp) worked fine!

    Many thanks.

Using the "Transfer to GPS..." icon and the drop-down right-click menu "Send to GPS..." didn't work, at least for me.

There are checkboxes in the transfer dialog that define what data is sent to your device. If the custom maps/JNX box is unchecked, that data won't be sent. Otherwise, it certainly should be sent. If that's not the case every time, we'd certainly like to know.
