BaseCamps shows nothing from SD Card

Hello

MacBook Intel, OS X 10.6.4
BaseCamp 3.0.2

When I run BaseCamp and attach my SD card, it shows the card(device).
I then choose to 'receive from GPS' and it says 'Transfer Complete'

But then I look in BaseCamp, I see none of my user data. No routes/waypoints/tracks are transferred. Everything under MyCollection is empty.

If I take the same card and use HomePort running on a PC (actually running in Parallels on my mac), I can transfer all of my user data.
I'm able to transfer data to/from the card just fine with Parallels and HomePort.

But I don't want to use Parallels to update routes.

Should this work?

Here's what I've tried:

Deleted
~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/BaseCamp/
~/Library/Preferences/com.garmin.BaseCamp.plist
Reinstalled
BaseCamp 3.0.2

I've also taken a new 2GB SD card, put it in my GPSMAP and downloaded all user data to the card. That card isn't read by BaseCamp either.

It all works great in HomePort via Parallels - but please, I want to use a Mac program !

Any help appreciated.

Jeff

Here's what
  • What GPS are you using to write the data to the card? What files are under the Garmin directory on your card?

    540s

What GPS are you using to write the data to the card? What files are under the Garmin directory on your card?

I use a G540S to read/write to the card then the card is attached to a USB SD Card reader to interface to my Mac.
I can read/write from that card just fine from HomePort in Windows.

    The card has these folders/files
    (f)Garmin
    ___GarminDevice.xml
    ___(f)UserData
    ______Anclote.adm
    ______USERDATA.ADM

(note, I used _ because spaces don't come through)

Earlier I was using a G2vision card, so the card also contained an exported copy of the 540s built-in map and the g2vision map in addition to my adm files.

    Does BaseCamp read/write ADM files?

I feel like I'm missing something very obvious.....

    Thanks
    Jeff

You've hit the nail on the head, unfortunately. Currently, BaseCamp (Mac and Windows) cannot read/write ADM files.

    adm or gpx

Do I have other options to use OS X with my 540s ?
Can the 540s use gpx files?

Or is my best option HomePort via Parallels ?

AFAIK, the 540s does not support GPX files. At this time, HomePort in Parallels is your best option.

Waypoint transfer to Basecamp from etrex vista HCx

I have a similar problem with my PC and Basecamp. I can bring up the Topo map from my eTrex by selecting Mass Storage but no waypoints transfer to the map on the PC.

BaseCampe 3.1.4 still not ADM support

I still can't load routes from Mac Basecamp (3.1.4) to my 540s.

Is Parallels/HomePort still the only mac solution?

Garmin- please add .adm support to basecamp !!!
  • You should try out the BaseCamp 3.2 beta. It's got a preliminary version of ADM support because of HomePort development.

I didn't know the beta existed... thanks for pointing me to it.

Ran it on OS X 10.6.7[english]

It started up. I put the SD card in, it shows up in Basecamp then basecamp completely freezes. have to force quit.

I'll check back for newer betas later.. thanks
