Proximity Alert Setup

I have been unable to get the Proximity Alert to work and I am hoping to get some advise on what I may be doing wrong or missing in this process.

I am using BaseCamp 3.0.2 on a MacBook Pro with Leopard and my GSP is a Zumo 550 with the latest firmware and maps.

Here is what I have tried doing:
1. Created a waypoint along a road a few miles away.
2. Opened Get Info > Advanced for that Waypoint.
3. Set a Proximity value of 0.50 miles.
4. Set the Display option to Symbol & Name (I also tried Symbol & Comment)
5. Closed the Get Info window.
6. Loaded the Waypoint into my Zumo (Send to GPS)
7. Disconnected the GPS and Imported the new Waypoint
8. Got on my motorcycle and went for a ride.
:(
My expectation was that, when I got 1/2 mile from the Waypoint, an alert would sound, must like the POI red light cameras I have loaded. Nothing happened.

I then tried again, having the Waypoint selected as the destination, again nothing happened.

I am leaving on a vacation trip in a couple of weeks and want to have proximity alerts attached to some of the Waypoints I have set. The Red Light Camera alert scenario of something similar is what I wish to achieve and since BaseCamp includes a setting for Proximity, it appears this should be easy to do for selected Waypoints.

I don't need or want custom sounds, pictures and such that are used with TourGuides plus the TourGuide setup instructions I have read seem overly confusing.
  • If someone on the forum can't help, I would suggest calling garmin support. Have you checked the waypoint on the zoom to see what get uploaded? Have you tried setting the distance on the zoom manually and verified you can make the proximity work that way? I don't have a Zume but my Dakota work fine with geocaches uploaded to the dakota.
