Birdseye not displaying downloaded images.

I have about 30 birds eye downloads so far in my Basecamp collection.

I attempted last night to add another. I selected the birdseye feature, verified my paid subscription, selected a high resolution region (70mb+) and spent an unreasonable amount of time downloading (as always).

Issue 1. Download takes far too long... In may, downloads were unreasonably long. In June - the speed was exceptional, and now, it's crawling again. Sorry - I don't believe it's 'network' related. It's throttling, and it sucks.

Issue 2. After waiting for the aforementioned intolerable length of time, the image data doesn't display on the screen. The box shows, the item shows in the collection, but a get info suggests the 70mb region is 90kb and the JNX file on the Oregon is 16k.

Successive tries created a number of additional 16k JNX files on the device. Not one displays imagery, in basecamp, or the device.

So... Any clues?

System:

OSX 10.5.8
iMac (Intel)
Basecamp 3.0.1 and 3.0.2 both exhibit problem.

I'd dump everything to try a clean / fresh install - but where do all my birdseye files get backed up?

For reference, I'm not a GPS or Garmin newbie. This shouldn't be so difficult... Garmin history?

GPS 12, GPS 12XL, eTrex, Vista, GPSMAP 60, GPSMAP 60C, GPSMAP 60cx, Oregon 300, ditched, and bought back after a year and firmware / software fixes).

I REALLY want the new 62 - but do I have to continue suffering garmin software for that one too? You'll notice there's no Colorado in there... I got lucky / smart and didn't buy one.
