I have an Oregon 300 and ever since I upgraded from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 it says

Alert
There was an error trying to communicate with your Garmin device.

Or something to that effect.

The device is up to date software-wise and I've even reinstalled it several times. No luck.

Any others having this problem? Or can I go back to 3.0.1 for the time being? Where would I find the install package for 3.0.1?

Thanks.
  • Can you see if an error is being printed to your console when you connect your Oregon?

Sorry for the late reply! I was in China for a month and in Finland for a couple weeks after that.

No error on the console. I updated OS X. Still running the latest BaseCamp. Problem seems to have corrected itself? BaseCamp can now read the GPS fine and transfer data.

But I'm still wondering about being able to delete data on the GPS through BaseCamp. I can't seem to do this on my Oregon 300. When I click "Get Info" on the device is says—

    Supports:
Deletion of newly transferred user data

    What exactly does that mean?

It doesn't matter if I delete anything on my device through BaseCamp because when I disconnect the device and turn it on, the data (waypoints, etc) are still there. It is really frustrating if I have to manually clear data from my GPS by deleting folders or parts of files.
  • The Oregon 300 does not support deletion of data that was on the Oregon when you plugged in the device. If you decide you want to delete something form the current secession, something you just copied, you can delete theses items.

The Dakota supports deletion of anything on the Dakota. I have a Dakota 20 and a Oregon 300. I much prefer the Dakota and the ability to manage all data from the mac is a big reason.
