Understanding Basecamp and Mac interaction

Hi Guys
Nice forum you've got here.
I'm new to this GPS stuff. I've got a garmin GPS 18x USB receiver and a Macbook Pro running latest version of Leopard. I've installed Basecamp and mapmanager and have communicator plug (v2.9.2) installed (this reports the 18x has be found and is working correctly). I'm using shonky maps of my local area. When I click on the "recieve for GPS" icon in basecamp, a pop box open to select what is to be recieved. I select "track" and hit the receive button. A message "Transfer complete" pops up but when I try to save it to see what's been received it has no data. It is unclear to me how realtime position is displayed on basecamp's view of the map.

Can any offer suggestion?

BaseCamp does not support the display of realtime position data. None of the Mac programs from Garmin do. Only Garmin Mobile® PC, which is a Windows program, supports realtime data.

BaseCamp is used to view maps, plan routes, mark waypoints etc., which you can transfer to your GPS unit. It will also receive static data from your GPS such and Waypoints marked while you were on the road, track data from a recent trip etc.

If you want to display realtime data on the Mac look into MacGPS Pro, GPSNavX or MacENC.

These all work with raster maps only, some of which are available free on the Internet.

Route Buddy is another one that will display real time position.

    Thanks Denny.
I'm have a look at the MacGPS Pro software at present but it does not appear to interface correctly to the garmin 18x receiver. Waiting for a reply from MacGPS site for way ahead.
