Using BaseCamp

Hi,

I am a Mac (Snow Leopard) user and I am new to the Garmin world. I have a topo map on my Oregon 400T and I also have the same map as a MapSource document on a CD. I know that Mac cannot run MapSource.

I simply want to have the same topo map on Basecamp, which I use for viewing my waypoints and tracks.

I borrowed a PC, downloaded MapSource and opened the topo map from CD, saved it in (.gdb) format and burnt it on another CD. On my Mac, Basecamp could see the map (it shows up on the left side of the window) but when I imported it, nothing happened (i.e., I cannot see the topo map).

Is there a trick for Mac users to view MapSource documents in Basecamp –or, other Mac compatible Garmin applications–?

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated,
Bulent
  • You can view the maps that are preloaded on your 400T in BaseCamp. If you plug the GPS in and run BaseCamp, you can switch to that map (after it is done with its one-time indexing).

If you also have a Topo map product on DVD check if it is Mac compatible. If it is, you can simply install it. If it is a very old product however, it may be PC only. In which case, you will need to download and run MapConverter on your PC to convert the map to a Mac compatible one and then install that on your Mac.

Once you have your maps, you should be able to accomplish everything you need to using BaseCamp on your Mac. There should be no need for you to run the PC application MapSource.

DVD topo map only on one PC and One gpsitem

I have a topo map of Denmark though and the licens is very restricted: It can only be installed on one PC and on one specific garmin. It is the case with the DVD edition. the edition fixed on an sd card can be used in any garmin but can not be used for editing in basecamp as fra as i have understood.
