My old Quest on my new iMac

Maybe the cord connecting the Mac and the Qwest is bad.

I'm still using a Quest, with an iMac and Snow Leopard. I performed standard installations of RoadTrip, MapInstall and MapManager, and jumped through the required hoops to get my PC maps across to the Mac.

RoadTrip sees the Quest, and I can use it to move waypoints and routes successfully. However, of course the Quest only holds a limited amount of the available maps, and trips abroad mean I have to get different maps to the Quest, Sadly this function doesn't work at all. It claims to copy the maps but they don't actually appear. Of course, on the PC MapSource builds an index for the Quest for routing etc, and I believe this stage is just ignored on the Mac side. In short, to move maps to the Quest I still have to use the PC. Of course, there are no further map updates available for the Quest either.

BaseCamp also communicates with the Quest, but the latest version screws up copying waypoints, giving some error, I forget what, and then copying two copies of every waypoint instead of one.

I now use BaseCamp because it's more advanced than RoadTrip, but export/import to RoadTrip to get stuff to the Quest. This is a pain, because routes have to be re-done or else waypoints used in routes also appear twice.

In summary, it will work, with limitations. I have no expectations of Garmin worrying about these bugs, and I haven't bothered reporting them.

When a device stops working with our applications, it's something we'd like to know about, so please do inform us. There are many, many different devices to maintain support for, and we unfortunately don't catch every issue ourselves, although that is certainly our goal.

I dont think the cable has ever been used before!
I think I have another in a box somewhere so will dig it out and try.
I will feel a bit silly if it is just that :p

OK tried another Garmin cable (I know this one works as I have used it today to update my nuvi) but the quest is still not recognised on the Mac.
Anymore ideas?? :(

Done, but they couldn't really help they just suggested different cables - I have tried all my cables, the quest cable, the nuvi cable and the forerunner cable :( also tried different usb ports etc...
I guess I will have to try it on a PC next, but if my mac can't even see the device is connected to the usb port I doubt it will work. Totally gutted because it would be perfect for the bike if I could download the tracks to it :(

When you try it on a PC, update the firmware. Then you'll probably be able to use your Quest on the Mac. See the link below.

That old USB Quest is pretty neat.

All of the older unit software, including the Quest, had to have an upgrade to be compatible with the Mac. If your Quest hasn't had the upgrade that's likely the problem.

I'm new at this. I need help. I downloaded the updated maps. The website said it was successful. Now what do I do. How do I know it was placed in by gps?
