Google Maps Terrain view in BaseCamp

Is there a way to get Google Maps Terrain view maps into BaseCamp as an overlay or at least a separate map? How would that be done if so. I'm really liking the terrain view better than the standard topo style.

I would love to have the Terrain view with the NT maps plopped on top. That would be the perfect scenario for me.

I can't seem to get that view in Google Earth so I'm thinking only Google Maps has it or no? and don't know how to create an overlay anyway sadly.

Well I managed to get a simple overlay into BC via a screenshot -> Google Earth (Add Overlay) (Save as KML) -> to BC.

Would rather have a layered overlay with multiple zoom resolutions. Any way to do that?
  • BaseCamp will Accept Custom maps. See the garmin forum. I am not sure what you mean by terrain maps but BaseCamp also has a subscription base Birdseye View. I mostly use the 24k topo maps from Garmin with base camp but the 100K maps are just about as good.

The Terrain map specifically is the one that only seems to be available in Google Maps, not Google Earth but Google maps. I just love that style, wish I could buy that on a DVD or something. Anyways that is the map that I am looking for. I have a few custom maps already as well as Birdseye.

Just go to Google Maps, select more and select Terrain... Love that view, want that view, need that view.
