Undocumented Features

Browsing? For lack of a better term.

I use this process in MapSource a lot, thought it wasn't available in BaseCamp and couldn't find a help file entry. Discovered it by accident. You may already know of it's existence.... or not. I thought I'd start this thread to share things users may stumble upon that aren't easily found in the documentation.

I like to look around or browse a location when trip planning, just to get an overview of what's in the area. I find search a bit cumbersome for this and am very happy BaseCamp supports it. As you know, when doing a mouse-over of a heavily POI'd area, a list of the POIs at the mouse location shows as a pop-up on the screen. Note the anchor to the point.

If you left click, the pop-up (usually) changes position and freezes. The anchor disappears.

At this point the user can select the POI of interest.

And a click produces the POI info.

A fairly quick way to get an overview of the area of interest. If there was a way to create a Waypoint from the resulting list....perfect.

Anybody else got one?
  • One feature in BaseCamp 3.0 that I don't think has been well advertised is the ability to double click on GPX and .gdb files to have them opened by BaseCamp. You can also drag and drop the file from Finder into BaseCamp or onto the dock icon.
  • I actually hadn't noticed this, and thank you. I'd quit trying with RoadTrip, just assumed BaseCamp was the same.
  • Back to your original post KillTimer... In RoadTrip if you click on a stack of POI's with the Waypoint Tool you get a popup list just like your screenshot show and the POI you choose is turned into a waypoint with the address info in the comment field of the waypoint. BaseCamp currently does not have that feature but we are looking to add it in an upcoming release.
  • Related to the addition of drag and dropping files, BaseCamp now supports importing multiple GPX and .gdb files at the same time, either through drag and drop or multiple selection in the Import dialog. This should help users that have a library of .gdb files they want to import into BaseCamp.

Please do, and roadtrip routing tool gives you a popup from a stack of POI's allow you to select the route waypoint just like the waypoint tool.

    Thanks
