BirdsEye bad resolution

Hello,

thanks for BaseCamp 3.01 which is much better than 2.1.1 beta and even better than the Windows version ;)

I was also very interested in BirdsEye, but after I discovered some regions in Europe I'm not sure if it usefull at all. The quality is too bad...

Examples attached are showing Greven in BirdsEye, Google Earth and Geonetz Greven (my home town, N 52° 05.860' E 007° 36.080)

BirdsEye

Google

Geonetz Greven (this is a crop from left of the bridge)

Same bad resolotion of BirdEye can be shown for beneath all other regions in Europe except of big cities and very important tourists places.

Any idea if this will change in the near future?

Thanks,

Oliver
  • It sounds like you are running with older firmware in your 550T. New firmware was released to support this feature. You should run WebUpdater to update your firmware and then try again.

I am quite happy with BirdsEye but it is really very slow to load even if the download size is small.

For +/- 70 sq km highst resolution equals +/-70 MB and it takes a hour or two

Quality of BirdsEye images very poor, waste of money

We like to do a lot of walking and bought Birds Eye subscription, as we thought it would be of great assistance to us. Like most people, I suppose, we looked up our own area, where we live in central Oxford and the "quality" is so poor, it is completely useless, for a major tourist destination.

There are other inconsistencies, too, such as N51 39.709 W0 56.367, an area close to the M40 motorway, where there are many red kites in evidence and many footpaths on steep gradients for walking. Here, the area roughly south of the M40 is fine, perfectly acceptable, but should you choose to walk north of the motorway, then again it is fuzzy and useless.

All in all, not worth the money. They should never have released this product without a wider degree of coverage. It is akin to ripping off their customers.
  • Sorry you are not pleased with the resolution in all locations. This is part of the reason that there is a preview mode available before purchasing the subscription.
