Saved and transfered data

After I do a 5.79 mile hike I save that track on my Oregon 450. I than transfer the information from my GPS to Basecamp. My question. Why is the millage different? My millage was 5.79 and the transfered millage was 4.5 miles. The 5.79 was pretty much right on with other GPS so what gives?

The "save" tool on your Oregon gives you the option of taking only the portion of your track from a given time period, which could result in cropping off some older sections of the track.

In general, just plugging in your device should display the waypoints/tracks/routes on it, without needing to explicitly "save" the track data to display it. Can you use this to compare the saved and unsaved versions of the track in BaseCamp? Do the milages differ there, too?

    Saved and transferred data

Just plugging in the device and checking the saved info it was the same as what I transferred. I did not save a portion. (I don't think) What is not the same is what is showing on the trip computer. The trip computer is 1 mile more. I know this is write because after the hike everybody compares the results of the hike and we are just about right on. We have a hike in a couple of days and I will check again. But, the last few hikes have a mile or so less than the trip computer.

    Saved and transferred data

I just went on a 21.26 mile bike ride and immediately saved and transferred saved data to my Mac. It saved it as 20.50 miles. It saves the right data on the devise but saves less when I transfer it to Basecamp. Anyone have any ideas about this?
