Forerunner 305 and Oregon

I would never request a senor discount but the young ladies are offering more often than not and I am using my Forerunner more for Geotagging photo than training. BaseCamp mounts the Froerunner 305 but the tracks will not appear until I launch forerunner with the Forerunner plugged into the USB port. Once I let Forerunner see the track, BaseCamp will continue to show the track until the track is deleted form the Forerunner.

Considering all the different models, firmware, etc. you guys are supporting, I am amazed at how well BaseCamp supports as much as it does and the Forerunner is very usable with BaseCamp, it just takes an extra step.

If you want to use your oregon to find your location in BaseCamp, you can mark a waypoint , plug in the oregon, and when it mounts, show on map. If you mark another waypoint with the device plugged in, BaseCamp will not show the new data without restarting or unplugging and replugging the usb. Don't know if anyone else would us a refresh (reload) button by the mounted My Garmin Device but it would be handy for my use.

Thanks

Could you clarify what you mean?

All mass storage devices, such as the Oregon, only write their data when they mount as mass storage devices, so no new data will be written until it is unmounted and remounted. Also there is no way to mark a waypoint while the device is plugged in, in mass storage mode. If you want updated positions while plugged in, you should use a GPS 18 or GPS 10. As sensors, they are designed to provide real-time information.
  • Not a big deal but Training Center must be marking the track as recored of something like that because BaseCamp can not see the track until Training Center does something.

I just wanted to double check before I ordered a GPS 18. If I use a GPS 18 with Garmin BaseCamp, will it center the map on my position and show a symbol for my position. My Forerunner 305 provides real time information for other application but BaseCamp will only show information stored in memory.

    Thanks

Garmin currently doesn't have a Mac application that uses real-time position. So a GPS 18 will not provide any more functionality in BaseCamp, though some 3rd party applications programs do.

Training Center forces your Forerunner to reset and save the track for your current activity.

You can read the track with BaseCamp by holding the lap / reset button on your Forerunner for three seconds in order to save the track in your history.
