Why do my maps not show up in Map Manager?

I am very frustrated with map manager that doesn't work with the maps I have. What am I doing wrong?

  • This isn't an Express issue so I've moved it to the BaseCamp forum, please add which maps you're talking about?

  • I bought and downloaded US Topo 24k Southwest. I also purchased Boundry Waters map and US Topo 100k. They are on my Montana 700i. The US Topo 24k Southwest is on the device’s memory. The others are on the removable storage. Thing is, there is a copy of US Topo Southwest on the removable storage also. I want to remove the US Topo Southwest from the device memory and just have it on removable storage. I want to move the US Topo 100k map from removable storage to device memory. All the instructions I’ve read say this is easy with Map Manager on Garmin Express. But my removable storage doesn’t even show up. So if it isn’t Express then how do I access Map manager otherwise?

  • Garmin MapManager is a program to manage maps that are installed on your computer. You cannot use it to manage the maps that are installed on your device or on the SD card in it, it's simply not made for that...

  • Hello!

It's frustrating when "Map Manager" doesn't work with your maps! Common culprits include unsupported map file formats (e.g., trying to use a KML file with software that only accepts Shapefiles), corrupted or incomplete map files, issues with the specific "Map Manager" software you're using (e.g., outdated version, licensing), or even insufficient system resources. To help diagnose, please specify which Map Manager software you're using, the file format of your maps, and any error messages you receive.

This is complete nonsense, definitely made with chatGPT...

  • So, what you are saying is that the button marked “manage maps” on express is simply not used to manage maps?

  • Garmin MapManager is a separate program, it is not a part of Express.

The map managing options of Express are very limited; you can add or remove maps, but you cannot decide where to install them.

If you want to remove Topo SW from the internal memory, you'll need to do that yourself using Finder. The file has the extension .img. The file name is not very descriptive, but the file with the same map on the SD card should have the same name.

  • Got it! It took awhile but I I got it. Thank you for all y’all’s time in replying! A big thank you!

  • Glad you resolved it. I'll close this thread with thanks to  for his help.
