How can I get the GPS to NOT announce the waypoints? It can be done in the windows version but I can't find it in the MAC version.

I presume you mean viapoints in a route? In the Mac version it works in exactly the same way as in BaseCamp for Windows: double click the route to view the properties, right click (or Ctrl-click) on the viapoint you don't want it to be announced and select 'Don't Alert on Arrival'
I followed your instructions and there is nowhere that "Don't Alert on Arrival" shows up.
Which version of BaseCamp do you use? Really old versions didn't support this option (pre 3.3.1)
I am using 4.8.13.
When I follow the instruction in the Customer Service link all I get is the box in the lower right hand corner and there is no where I can find Don't Alert.
BTW, thank you for the help.
That is a waypoint, not a viapoint in a route. A waypoint is never announced by default. There is an option to set a proximity distance though, under the tab "Advanced". Proximity warnings are supported by certain outdoor devices.
