Basecamp routing preference persistently defaults to walking. How can I force Basecamp to stick with my routing preference choice?

I am using Basecamp 4.8.11 with my up-to-date Drive 53 connected to my MacBook.  I want to create a route.  I go to settings, routing and choose driving.  I select two waypoints to make a route, and despite my preference choice of driving, Basecamp persists in calculating a walking route (which is always a straight line).  I change the routing preference, but as soon as try to create a route, it reverts to walking.

How is choice of routing preference made to "stick" in Basecamp?

  • Not sure on a mac but in BaseCamp you set the default routing profile in the toolbar at the top. That then becomes the default setting. Note that applies then to any route created unless you change it individually within the route properties, sounds to me like you're doing that which is why it's not sticking.

  • Thank you SUSSAMB; that's a very helpful answer.

I was selecting the preference in Settings, not the drop down menu in the toolbar.  So it turns out that Basecamp for Mac will not preserve a preference chosen through Settings, but will keep a preference chosen through the toolbar.  Quitting and reopening the application proves it so.

  • Great, that's how it's designed to work. Will close this now as it's been resolved
