BaseCamp 2.1.1 Beta posted

This update should fix Snow Leopard garbage characters, the symbol picking crash, and a few other issues. It also adds full sync data support for the Oregon 550s and Dakotas. Get it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4732

The only reason this is called a beta is because there is crash that can occur when making long routes on Topo 24K map products. Fixing this issue will probably take a couple of weeks minimum, so we released this as a "beta" for now, as Snow Leopard users are justifiably tired of waiting.

As with all betas, we suggest you back up your data by exporting or you can copy the files found in ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/BaseCamp/. You don't need to copy the directories, only the files. Once you update to this version, you shouldn't run the previous version, as the data files are not backwards compatible.
• Forum Tip:
If the forum is changing something into an emoticon that you didn't want, there is a check box in the advanced post form that allows you to disable them.

Alternatively, you can use the code tag (the # button in the advanced post form), which will turn this:

<gpxx:DisplayMode>SymbolAndName</gpxx:DisplayMode>

into this:

<gpxx:DisplayMode>SymbolAndName</gpxx:DisplayMode>
• Use the "code" tags to fix this.

Just search for:

<gpxx:DisplayMode>SymbolAndName</gpxx:DisplayMode>

and replace with:
<gpxx:DisplayMode>SymbolOnly</gpxx:DisplayMode>

Edit update note:
The Colon D is being replaced with the green smiley icon. That is the : character anywhere you try to add : D without the space it replaces with the green smiley seen above. If you quote the message, you will see the real text. Does not matter all you have to change is
SymbolAndName to SymbolOnly
• There are some significant drawing changes between RoadTrip 2.0.2 and BaseCamp 2.1.1. This may cause some rendering issues that will take time to iron out. Which map product are you using here?

I am having the same problem with Garmin Topo Spain V3 some items are not been rendered on the maps for example train tracks and electric power lines
• Garmin ..... Tell me what I need to send you so that you can investigate this further and get it fixed.

Denny Henderson,
I am unable to recreate this problem with the Zumo. Please send your shaped route to [email protected]. It would help if you would give your myGarmin forum tag in the email to help give it context. Thanks.
• 2.1.1 data lost

Not sure where to post but I was running 2.1.1 and got a notice an up date was available. It plainly said the update was from 2.0.0.9 to 2.0.1. However I got excited and downloaded and installed. After it installed, I open BaseCame and it told me it could not read my data and erased everything. I have a backup so it not big deal and I should have remember I was running 2.1.1 but I didn't. Just thought I would warn you guys.

I had to recreate that route, but still getting the same result.

I sent it.

EDIT:
I noticed I forgot to mention I am using CityNavigator 2009 maps.

EDIT # 2

I got an error back from the email I sent to you.

Just an update on what caused the data lost. I installed Topo US 24k North Central maps from a Garmin DVD. The install package contained MapInstall and BaseCamp version 2.0.0.8 which was automatically installed. The install package gave no indication it was installing anything except the maps but I am not very good at reading the small print. All I remember is clicking one install and entering my password. When I opened BaseCamp, I got the message about not being able to read data and my data was erased. Next I got the notice to update basecamp to 2.0.0.1. Just an fyi.

Oops, I should have said [email protected].
• Hi, looks like I have some rendering issues as per other users. My maps are Schweiz Topo and NepalTopo (third party). SchweizTopo worked perfectly before I switched to Snow Leopard in a laptop upgrade.

Attached pictures: in my former laptop (PowerBook G4 - BC 2.0.1): "Before.png" and in my new one (MacBook Pro - BC 2.1.1 beta - same issue with BC 2.0.1): "After.png". In both cases, Basecamp is set at the same level of details.

By the way and fyi, RoadTrip is working smooth on the new laptop, I have all the details as I used to have on my former laptop / BC installation.

In any case, thanks a lot for your hard work. Please keep it up!

Best regards
Mathieu
