Track information gone

I just got a new Mac running Sequoia, and Basecamp no longer displays time stamps, elevations or speeds when viewing a track log.  All I'm seeing is index, leg distance, leg course and position.  Did the feature disappear?  I failed in version 4.8.11 as well as 4.8.13.  But 4.8.11 still works fine on my old Mojave machine.

  • Now I see the issue.  I backed up my database from my old machine and restored it to my new one, and all that information disappeared from my tracks.  When I added a new track to my database I see this information.  So the problem is with either the backup or restore process that loses that data.

  • How are you doing the backup and restore?

  • Using The backup/restore options in Basecamp’s File menu.

  • Hmmm, OK. That should work as it does in Windows. If you still have access to your old machine you could try manually copying the database across?

  • The additional track data is stored in a separate folder:

    /Users/{yourname}/Library/Application Support/Garmin/BaseCamp/Database/4.8/TrackSegments/

The folder is included in the backup, but it isn't restored using the restore function. You can however fix that manually:

    • Close BaseCamp
    • Rename the backup file BaseCamp_xxxxxx.Backup to BaseCamp_xxxxxx.zip
    • Extract this zip file
    • Move or copy the files from the folder BaseCamp_xxxxxx/Database/4.8/TrackSegments/ to the above mentioned folder
  • Yes, this SHOULD work as it does in Windows but it doesn't.  I reported this several years ago to Garmin.  I had several emails back and forth with Garmin support.  I use a a Basecamp .bclibrary stored in a folder in Documents instead of the inane obscure .bclibrary hidden in the user ibrary folder tree.  I sent Garmin the Original .bclibrary file, the Backup file, and the NEW .bclibrary Restored from the Backup showing the data loss in tracks.  Garmin support acknowledged the issue as a bug but the reply was as follows.  "It will not be fixed in Mac Basecamp so use Windows Basecamp".  Great response.  .  A company that so blatantly ignores user data loss is a poor company indeed.  Garmin at the very least should inform the user when they download Basecamp that Mac Basecamp has a MAJOR data loss bug but Garmin just does not care.

  • If you use a user created .BCLIBRARY like I do instead of the Garmin Hidden .bclibrary you have to show "Show Package Contents" on the library file.  This should be an ease fix in the Mac Restore code but as SUSSAMB has indicated many times Garmin does not know how to fix Mac Basecamp and have no interest in doing so.

  • I thanks you for that thought. I zipped up the whole Basecamp folder in Library/Application Support/Garmin and sent it over to my new machine. That fixed it. I would have done this in the first place but I was worried the older folder would not be compatible with the latest Basecamp. You’d think Backup/Restore would be more reliable.
