Feature Request: More Editing Features for Tracks

I'd like to request more editing features for tracks.

• ability to move track points

• ability to add track points to an existing track

The ability to do these things to Routes exists it would be nice to be able to do the same with tracks.
  • Probable not what you want but the routing tool in BaseCamp allows you to draw a route over you track that becomes very easy to change or edit. Just click and drag to add a point.

My tracks contain thousands of track points very close together so I don't think I would ever want to insert. If you moved a track point, what would you want to happen to the track? In auto routing the track re-routes to the nearest road and as you drag over a road a popup allows you to pick the road even on low zoom levels. With a track moving just one track point would give you a straight line out and back.

Thanks but it's even easier than that as you can select a track and convert it into a route and then edit it to your hearts content but that's not what I'm talking about. That entails converting an existing track, I'm talking about creating a new track. It only makes sense that if one of the tools available to me allows me to create a track it would make sense to allow the track to be easily edited the same way that routes are on a point-by-point bases.

The problem with creating tracks in BaseCamp is that if you make an error you either have to start all over again or you have to use time consuming workarounds to make corrections which don't always work.

Yes, mine do as well but here we are talking about tracks created on the GPS device that are imported into BaseCamp. In that case, I'm not interested in doing more than deleting excess points or breaking apart or joining track segments and BaseCamp handles this properly already. You are correct that it is pointless to edit these types of tracks and I don't intend to outside of what's already possible.

The problem is that tracks and routes are fundamentally different. Routes are great when you want to established a route between two points that follow a road but aren't as useful where roads don't exist like hiking trails.
  • Agreed, I was not thinking about track creation.

Thank you for your feedback. We will consider this request for a future version of BaseCamp. In the meantime, I think you can accomplish what you are asking for using Track Split, Draw Track, and Join Track. While it is not quite as convenient as what you can do with routes, it is doable.

Thanks azdrmn, that's what I do now but, as you're aware, it is clunky.
