Track log confusion

I have an eTrex with Canada topo installed and routinely use it while hiking. Lately I have been trying to match up photos that I take while hiking and this is done with varying degrees of success. When I download tracks from my handheld to BaseCamp I get a file called (sep 04 2009) for instance then another file called (active log 001-002) the actual track file does not contain the times but the active track log does. There is no rhyme or reason for the naming of the active logs that I can find. The dated track log can be renamed when saving in the handheld but that file does not contain the times in the track to match up with the photos.

I'm really confused.
  • Sorry for the confusion. Basically the dated track file is a "saved" version of the active log. All Garmin GPSs drop date info from tracks when saved, so you will always want to use the active log for photo geotagging. The good news is you don't need to worry about the name of the active log. Just highlight all of them and say "Match Photos...". BaseCamp will search across all selected tracks for a time match. Hope this helps.
