Basecamp only calculates "As the Crow Flies" routes

Basecamp now only calculates "As the Crow Flies" routes, despite routing activity preference set for Driving (not Direct). I've read the old threads on this issue which invariably instruct the reader to change routing preference from Direct. But that is not the issue here, since routing preference is NOT set on Direct.

Restarting does not correct the problem.

Found the answer. After the last map and firmware update was installed, Basecamp had defaulted to the wrong map.

The fix is: click on Maps, then from the dropdown menu, select your most recent Garmin map update (in my case, City Navigator North America NT 2024.2 as of the date of this post).
