Nuvi57LM and Basecamp on Mac, the .gpx file in my Nuvi gets corrupted on saving from Basecamp

When I connect my Nuvi57LM to Basecamp on my Mac I get a message saying there is a communication problem. I have deleted the .gpx file and all was well until the next usage when the .gpx file created was corrupt. I found temp.gpx in my .gpx folder and clicking on that opens Basecamp with no error. Renaming temp.gpx to current.gpx did not fix the issue not did copying the .gpx folder from my GPSMap76s into my Nuvi. It is a nuisance having to enter waypoints into my Nuvi and Basecamp separately. I never had this problem with my GPSMap units. Can anyone offer any help to stop my unit or Basecamp corrupting the current.gpx file?

  • The current.gpx file is written to your GPX folder on your device by the device itself. It's a one way copy of what is held in memory that is inaccessible to the user.  Deleting it or replacing it will have no effect as if it's being reported as corrupt it'll be because some internal data is corrupt. You could try deleting all the data on your nuvi using its menus, so all saved places and routes, then do a master reset to see if that resolves it.

  • Hi, many thanks for your reply. I have done as you suggested and have re-entered waypoints directly into the unit and this seems to have worked. However, when I try to transfer data that originated from a Garmin Vista via 2 GPSMap units it corrupts the .gpx file. I shall now start the laborious task task of loading the desired data manually and see if that solves the issue for good.
