Basecamp doesn't see Montana 700i as a device... it sees it only as a storage drive

Hi,

Garmin Basecamp doesn't show my device as a navigation device. It only shows it a storage drive, and same for sd card inside. I had the issue with a previous device, garmin changed it and still the issue remains. I take it the issue is with garmin basecamp or my Mac.

As a result, I can't use BirdsEye (as it says I have not compatible device, although the Montana 700i is plugged in, I can't use the maps on my device... etc

Earlier devices (before these 2) seemed just fine.

I'm using Mac OS Monterey (12.6), Basecamp 4.8.12 and my Montana 700i has software 13.20. The device works fine on a stand alone, but I use all the benefit of using Basecamp to map routes as I wish.

Anyone can help?

  • I have exactly the same issue, contacted Garmin support and they currently have no solution.

It sees the device as a volume not a device. It also sees the sd card and will load maps off the sd card but not maps installed on the device.

Also I have tried on a M1 and Intel based Mac and the problem persists. Have used the apple USB C to USB A converter and 2 other brands. Interestingly if you watch closely after connecting the device (If basecamp is already open) sometimes it does briefly appear as a device and then changes to a volume. Garmin express sees and communicates perfectly. (web updater doesn't)

Same installation of basecamp sees a Garmin Zumo XT and a Edge 530 fine
