I have been very pleased with the performance BaseCamp on my new M1 iMac. I am guilty of not visiting the forum unless I have problems and I suspect most of us only write about issues we are having. Reading the forum, I was afraid BaseCame would be unusable on my new M1. I was very presently surprise. My core i5 MB Pro takes 51 seconds to open and load maps. The M1 iMac does it in 5 seconds and both have SSD drives. The 2017 iMac core i7 with Fusion Drive took 2 minutes. Everything else I tested seems to be about twice as fast. I have tested most everything and have not experienced any problems.
