BaseCamp and Zumo XT

Zumo XT has lots of problems, running firmware version 6.1 on MAC OS 11.2.3

BaseCamp Version 4.8.11

Express both boxes unchecked

Reboot

Express not running

BaseCamp will not start with Zumo XT Connected

and

1) continuous flashing of connect code (real fast, bluetooth I think but can't tell for sure).

2) does not connect to BaseCamp, in fact, BaseCamp quits unexpectedly when Zumo XT is connected to the computer.

3) purchased BirdsEye and have no access to the purchase

4) Every time the Zumo XT is turned on it goes through the initial set up.  Country, American English, End User License Agreements, etc.  Then flashes "The code for this device is xxx xxx."

How do I stop the flashing code for this device?

How do I get the device working with BaseCamp?

How do I get the purchase BirdsEye additions to the device and to BaseCamp.  The instructions you have sent and show on your web site do not work.

At this point I am very disappointed in this very expensive Garmin product!  Please provide accurate timing for solutions to these problems.

I am running the latest version of Big Sur and all apps are up to date. From the research I have done it appears that:

    1. Maps from the Zumo cannot be installed on BaseCamp without the unit being connected (regardless of what the notifications say) and there is no longer an option in Garmin Express to save maps to the computer.

    2. On a Mac, Express and Basecamp can't "see" the GPS unit at the same time.

    3. Without being able to install maps on the computer for BaseCamp to access, creating maps and routes in BaseCamp is so slow that it is pointless.

Can someone please confirm this? It appears that this was possible just a short time ago based on several youtube videos demonstrating how to do this.

  • 1. I'm running Express 7.5.0.0 and the option is still there to install to computer. But I'm running OS 10.13.6, so Big Sur may be the problem here.

    2. True, but even back when they both could see the zumo (if ever), it just slowed things down, if I recall correctly. No reason to run both simultaneously.

    3. True, but see #1.
