I am trying to upload 1-5 maps to my garmin oregon 600. after searching the forums for an hour I located the temporary "fix" for basecamp so I could transfer over my waypoints and route. now I am trying to upload my basemaps from map install. I was told by a garmin "tech" support representative that they had no plan to support map install or their physical DVD maps any longer. Ditto the SD cards I purchase. I have approximately 400$ worth of their mapping software in map install which I have used for over a decade for work. I was told by the support person to possibly purchase a PC and try with a PC. I was told I could also physically load the info into the gps from the dvd. In case it saves anyone any time like I have wasted trying to get waypoints (20 or so) 1 route and 5 basemaps here are some suggestions:
1. Don't call or email tech support. After being on hold for 27 minutes the entire tact taken by tech support was to say to move to PC and that the maps and software I purchased from Garmin are no longer going to be supported.
2. Tech support told me to fiddle with the sleep mode on the Mac. They have no idea where that is on the new Big Sur update, but it is under battery. This has nothing to do with the problem either.
3. You cannot physically load the maps from the DVD as suggested by tech support. You can only load it onto your computers hard drive.
4. After being told repeatedly the "engineers" are hard at work on the issue with basecamp, nothing was going to be done with mapinstall.
So if anyone has found a work around for getting your maps into your gps using a mac running Big Sur please do share your work around so I never have to reach out to Garmin "support" again and waist my time.
