Distance in BaseCamp wrong

I create a route in BaseCamp which shows a distance of 170km. When i upload the route to my eTrex20 the distance on the eTrex shows as 108km. How come?

No idea. Having uploaded the route view both in BaseCamp and see where they may differ which might explain the difference.
