Are maps supposed to take 2 hours to load from watch?

Working with MacBook Pro (10.15.6), Basecamp for Mac (4.8.9) and a Marq. Each time I connect the Marq it takes 1-2 hours for the maps to load from the Marq to BaseCamp. This happens every time I connect the Marq. I contacted Garmin support who said this was normal.

Just seems crazy that it takes 5 minutes to plan and load a hike to the Marq, but 2 hours of map loading before I can even get started. I saw a couple of older posts about BaseCamp caching maps locally but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. I have uninstalled, re-installed, etc.

Is this normal for everyone else?

It's normal initially to take some time for BaseCamp to index the maps, note it doesn't install them on your mac or cache them locally, but once that is completed it should be almost instantaneous next time.

Having said that 1 to 2 hours seems a long time regardless. I don't though have a Marq so can't be exact, hopefully someone who has can comment on what you're seeing is normal.

If it is I agree that is crazy.
