I am trying to load USFS maps from here: https://data.fs.usda.gov/geodata/rastergateway/states-regions/states.php into Basecamp so I can use them with my eTrex. They download from the USFS site as Georeferenced TIFF files. I've tried every thing I can find from Google and I just can't make it work. The last attempt before I gave up, I loaded the TIFF into Google Earth, exported it as a KMZ, and then loaded that into Basecamp... but nothing shows up in Basecamp.
My goal is to know, with 100% certainty, if I am inside or outside the USFS land. We do displaced camping and we need to make sure we aren't on someone's land. Best case, the actual USFS boundaries would be a transparent overlay, but 99.9% of the time national forests are depicted on maps they just show the main outer boundary of the forest, and do not have the private property cutouts that are all throughout the land.
Thanks for any help you can give. I have access to Windows and Linux, but my primary computer is a Mac. I am technically literate, so I'm not afraid of running stuff in Python or whatever if that's the way to do this. I'm honestly surprised this is so hard to figure out!
