BC 4.8.8 Deletes Old Data when Importing

I know that this was an issue on older versions of BC, and I can't find any references to it that aren't at least a few years old.  I'm running a fresh install of 4.8.8 from Garmin's website with Catalina 10.15.5.  I've noticed three distinct issues so far and hopefully somebody can steer me right; I just switched from Windows to Mac, so I'm having to transition everything from MapSource to BC.

-When importing a new .gdb into Basecamp, all previously imported data disappears.

-Imports always go into "My Collection," despite selecting "Import into "[Folder]"".

-BC hangs up when I try to backup.

If anybody can shed some light or workarounds, I'd greatly appreciate it!

  • BaseCamp can only access one database at a time, so if you're importing it into the same location or selecting a different one it will delete the previous one.

I use Windows so can't explain your second issue, import into folder works as expected in Windows.

BC hangs occasionally for me, but nothing I can reproduce. You could try an uninstall then reinstall?

SUSSAMB, thanks for the insight; I'm still trying to get used to the BC interface.  After review, it turns out that the data's still there, it's just all piled directly into "My Collection" instead of in the lists that used to be there.  I'm guessing that when you import a GDB, the list that it goes into is only temporary (blue icon with a small white square in the corner), and when you import another file, the list disappears in favor of the new one, but the data remains. If I duplicate the temporary list, the new list has a solid blue icon and doesn't disappear when I do another import.  That may be my only workaround unless there's an easier way.  Uninstall/reinstall doesn't fix the hangups when backing up.
