Select tool does not select, Hand tool does select ??!

Hi folks,

I'm having a hard time with Basecamp when trying to edit a route.

With the Select tool activated and the route activated, when I click on the route to drag & drop to another road it usually doesn't select but instead it draws a grey square on the map. I have no clue why it's doing that.

Also with the Hand tool activated if I move the map but accidentally pass over a track it drag & drop the track......

So the behaviour is really not consistent. I tried to uninstall Basecamp and install again, it didn't change anything.

You can see a screenrecording of the behaviour I'm describing here: https://we.tl/t-ntoCkHtTbK

Any idea how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks.

Sébastien

Yes I'm using the Apple Magic Mouse.

But I can also reproduce using the trackpad (I'm on a laptop).

  • I haven't had this issue with Basecamp 4.8.8 and macOS 10.15.5 although I don't do a whole lot of moving things in Basecamp.  For me, Basecamp has been very usable. I do have some other annoying issues, not really bugs but just typical lack of Garmin software maintenance, some of which I have reported. Unfortunately, from past experience I don't think they have any interest in fixing these things.

If they don't want to fix bugs in Basecamp what do they suggest to use as an alternative?

  • Like I said, Basecamp is very usable for me.  I am just not seeing the issue you show.  Maybe its because I changed several of the mouse settings,  both in mouse and accessibility preferences.  All the software I use on a regular basis from Apple, Adobe and Microsoft seem to have MORE issues than in the past but are still usable.  Apple Catalina (or Apple's Vista) was pretty bad until recently.

  • Many if not all of the issues after v4.6.3 have been reported here in the forums. Perhaps best to search for them and test each one by one to see if you're experiencing the same thing. It really comes down to the combination of the version of Basecamp and what macOS its running on.
