BaseCamp downloads maps from Edge 800

Hi all, Every time I connect my Edge 800 to my mac (OSX 10.15.3)  BaseCamp (version 4.8.7) is downloading the installed maps from the SD card in my Edge. This is not only the first time when there is a new map or so. I waited for complete copy and maybe the next time it won't copy the map again. But unfortunately every time the maps are copied and i can't stop BaseCamp because it's busy.. (USB 1.0 .... i think.... to bad Garmin....)  I never had this issue before. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thanks on behalve, Martin

  • It's not copying your maps, it's indexing them so it can use them.  The first time this can take a while, so I suspect you're disconnecting your Edge before it's completed.  You should see a green line slowly moving underneath the name of the map under your SD card in the left hand pane.  Wait until that green line disappears.

thanks sussamb. I have waited until it's completed several times but every time i connect my edge it is indexing ( ok that was new to me i thought he was copying)  again and again and thats my problem.

  • Ah ok, in that case it's possibly the GarminDevice.xml file hasn't updated correctly, try deleting it (it's in the Garmin folder on your device) then reboot your Edge, that will recreate the xml file.  Now see if BaseCamp does the same?

Wow, great, thanks a lot SUSSAMB. After deleting the xml file from my device it indexed once again, what was to be expected, and after that it works as always. Great information. Thanks again!!

  • Great, I'll close this thread.
