Basecamp Muito Lento

Hello, I use MAC Pro computer and even though it is a specific heavy duty computer the Basecamp is very slow when I move the map by hand. This leaves the interaction with Basecamp very painful. Is there any adjustment to make the map more fluid? I've done everything and can't solve it. In the old days the map was fluid when using Windows.

  • Is the map installed to your Mac or are you reading it from a device?  If the latter the answer is to install the map to your Mac.

  • Basecamp 4.8.6 was extremely slow on an iMac 27 Retina and 4.8.7 has done nothing to improve the issue.  Basecamp 4.7.0 on the same machine works well so the Garmin update to 64 bit was poorly done and they don't seem to be interested in fixing it.  There have been several threads about this here and in other places.

It really is very slow and I see no interest in them to change. Is there any other application that has a silimar function?

  • I've the same issue with a iMac 27 Retina and 4.8.6 / 4.8.7 Basecamp (maps installed on my iMac)

I've contacted Garmin about this slow behaviour. After some tests, requested by Garmin, I did on other computers (MacBook and Windows PC) and with a lower screen resolution (the lowest possible on the iMac) they concluded that the slow control of Basecamp is probably caused by the high resolution of the iMac screen.

Worse, Garmin did not consider it a bug or an issue. They recommended me to write an e-mail to Customer Support and put in an enhancement request and it might get some attention. So I did.

I'm not very optimistic that this will be fixed/changed soon. Maybe if more complaints are made, it could help.

For now, I try to live with it...

But it is not a good promotion of Basecamp.

  • Sometimes I use plot-a-route.com which allows me to create and download routes (courses) without subscription. GPX tracks can be uploaded and modified too. I use it especially when I want to add custom Course Points from which I want to be alerted when navigating with my Edge 1030.

A subscription is needed when you want to save more than 5 routes.

  • Garmin doesn't seem to want to fix this issue. The high resolution Retina display does cause issues with Basecamp 4.8.7 but the exact same iMac has a LOT better performance using 4.7.0 so the issue is Garmins poor job of converting Basecamp to 64 bit and not just the display resolution.
