Is it correct that Garmin Basecamp doesnt work after upgrading to IOS Catalina? What to do?
BaseCamp v4.8.4 is 64-bit and therefore rumored to work after installing macOS Catalina v10.15. I have not performed the macOS upgrade, however, since it will eliminate my use of HomePort. At the same time, BaseCamp continues to have a major limitation: it will not read my LakeVu HD g2 lake map charts, neither from the chip installed in my connected 64st handheld nor from the same files copied to a virtual drive on my iMac. I switched from BaseCamp to HomePort quite a while back and currently use HomePort v2.3.0, which does read the LakeVu charts. Disappointingly, HomePort is 32-bit and will not work after an upgrade to Catalina. Also, Garmin has said that HomePort development is discontinued and will no longer be updated; it certainly will not ever be 64-bit and therefore will never be Catalina compatible. A disappointing Catch-22, to say the least.
I experienced a very telling moment with Garmin Support the other day when the representative interrupted me to ask, "Uh... what is Catalina?"
There was an issue with non-latin characters in non-unicode maps either in the map names or in the titles when the app was converted from 32 to 64-bit. It has been fixed with the new update released today: 4.8.6 https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4449
It works fine now on Catalina except the missing titles on printed maps but they was broken since 4.6.2 and not connected with 64-bit upgrade.
Thanks. I’ll check it out. Fingers crossed that something magical happens for viewing LakeVu maps, too...
dont click on check for updates, uninstall and then go download from website
No in fact it does not work! IOS catalina refuses to install V4.8.6
popup says !!! Can not open "Install BaseCamp.pkg" because Apple can not verify that it does not contain malware.
You trying to open it with single-finger tap (left mouse click). Use double finger tap (right click) to open context menu, then click open. Looks like garmin forgot to sign the installer so you see that warning. If you trust Garmin it is fine to proceed.

Basecamp 4.8.6 works fine for me with Catalina 10.15.1.
Right. Sadly, Garmin's HomePort 2.3.0, a nearly identical application, does not work with Catalina. Garmin says that they have halted development on HomePort and the latest version is not 64-bit. Dirty shame.
The last up:
I have had no Issues with the 64 bit version. I appreciate Garmin continuing to update BaseCamp. BaseCamp is the reason I have 12 Garmin GPS devices registered.
