Basecamp on Mac closes when I try to create a waypoint, how can I fix this?

I have version 4.8.3 Basecamp.  I use this frequently and have never had this problem before.  I'm trying to create waypoints, every time I do the app closes down.   Can anyone advise how to fix this?
