eTrex32x "Reading Maps..."

I have BaseCamp 4.8.3 and a recently purchased eTrex32x. I downloaded a few tiles and this seemed to work fine. But every time I connect the eTrex, Basecamp spends over 40 minutes "Reading maps" from the device" I cannot do anything whilst this is happening. Must this happen every time?

No, once it's done it'll be almost instant next time, but you do need to let BaseCamp finish indexing the map, if you stop it part way through it'll need to start again from the beginning next time.

Ok, Thanks. It would be useful if it said this somewhere! Right now, I can't connect to Birdseye, so an evening lost messing about. I guess I'll get there ...
