Basecamp issues

I am a happy user of Garmin products. Well... at least the hardware. Basecamp and I are complete enemies. I recently bought a 396 and wanted to show my good intentions, did an online course, did a offline course (mrGPS in The Netherlands. Not recommended). But I still spend frustrating hours. A few things:

- when in map view, all tracks show up. This clutters the view immensely.

- searching sucks. in order to make a search you have to zoom into the location where you want to search, shift the screen, go back, go to the other location you want to search.

- waypoints and POIs can't be deleted from the mac. If you want to delete them: unplug Garmin, delete, plug in Garmin, repeat.

- even in navigating (hand icon), sometimes a route is changed. Ctrl z changes it back. But still.

- when exporting to Zumo, waypoints have to be manually "turned on" in order to make the route.

I really cannot understand why the interface was made so userunfriendly.

  • Not sure about the mac as I have Windows but some of the above is I suspect user inexperience as Windows users think they have the same problems.  On your first point BaseCamp is a data base, if you select the full database then yes, all tracks etc will show up.  Like all databases you have to set up folders/lists/filters so you can just see what you want.  I have thousands of bits of data split into numerous folders and lists and switch between them with ease. Waypoints, POIs etc can be deleted on certain devices, on others they cannot, mainly automobile devices.  This is nothing to do with BaseCamp but it's how the automobile devices work.

If you have specific queries try posting them here,  once you understand BaseCamp it's actually a very impressive program (given that it's also provided for free)
