Cannot transfer trips from Basecamp to RV 770

I'd like to give it another try with this issue. I did before and nothing helped.

I would like to use Basecamp 4.8.3 to create trips and then transfer these trips to my Garmin RV 770. However, it does not work. I can create the trip and seemingly send it to the RV 770 (which is connected in file transfer mode to my Mac for this operation). What is new to before is the fact that I can see the trip in Basecamp being on my RV 770 (I did not see or notice this before). However, when I then disconnect the RV 770 from the computer, shut it down, and restart it again in "normal" mode the trip is not in the Trip Planner.

What is additionally strange that the device sometimes crashes once when I try to restart it after sending a trip to it, and sometimes it does not. Furthermore, sometimes the destination of the trip appears in the saved places, and sometimes not. And especially strange is that in the very beginning I was able to transfer 4 trips to the device, but non after that.

It has been like this since I got the device, also with previous versions of Basecamp. It does not work with my two Macs - and it also does not work with a Windows 10 PC on which I installed Basecamp just for testing purposes.

When this happened in the beginning I contacted Garmin, and after some back and forth and testing and retesting they decided that something is wrong with the device and replaced it with a new device. Unfortunately it also never worked with the new devices.

Since this is not working with two devices and also not from a PC I can only assume that I do something wrong - but I have no idea, what. I am usually very good with computers; all my friends come always to me with their problems and I can usually solve them.

I am wondering whether I can get tips here to solve this. Maybe someone who knows how to do this could also hook up to my computer with Teamviewer or Splashtop, then watch me creating a trip and transferring it, and then telling me what I am doing wrong.

By reading more or less by chance a review for the RV 780 on Amazon I found the solution for this problem.

BaseCamp for macOS (and maybe also for Windows) cannot transfer trips to the RV 770 if a propane…

The only thing I can think of is you're sending a track and not a route. I'd happily hook up via team viewer but away at the moment so can't.

I'm not familiar with the RV series of receivers so this is just a WAG. If your unit uses a "Trip Planner" or similar app, the route may have to be imported into this app once it's been transferred to the unit. After you boot the GPS in normal mode, check if there is an import menu option.

I just read another post that says if you have Propane tanks selected in the 770, trips won’t transfer.

That was also me who wrote this in this other thread. Thanks anyway for bringing it up here - so far I had just been too lazy to post this information in this thread.

By reading more or less by chance a review for the RV 780 on Amazon I found the solution for this problem.

BaseCamp for macOS (and maybe also for Windows) cannot transfer trips to the RV 770 if a propane tank is added to the RV details on the device. This is a bug in BaseCamp that Garmin blissfully ignores since years (and is not even forthcoming in letting its customers know). The propane tank has to be left out of the RV details on an RV 760/770/780 if one wants to use BaseCamp to create trips and then transfer them to the device.

Since taking the propane tank out of the RV details on my RV 770 I have no problems anymore to transfer trips from BaseCamp to the device. I'm very happy about that because I definitely prefer to compose trips in Basecamp on a computer with a larger screen than on the RV 770 directly.

Wow, I have beat my brains out trying to get this to work. That did the trick!! And Garmin support spent a long time with me on this and didn't give me this hint.

This is a very old thread on a very old issue that’s pretty well known even by Garmin, now. Hopefully the Basecamp developers have fixed it by now.

It is still not possible to transfer trips from Basecamp to the RV 770 when a propane tank is added to the RV configuration.

I made it known to Garmin more than two years ago (the back-and-forth email conversation is still on my computer). Since then there have been several updates to Basecamp (the latest version for macOS is 4.8.11) - and this bug has not been fixed or at least "officially" acknowledged.

Since I see where they are not developing BaseCamp any longer and will be steering folks toward Explore (been happening since 2018 though) I wouldn't expect any fixes. But it would have been nice if the tech had that glitch in her/his support script.

What is Explore? Is that a replacement for Basecamp and can be used to create trips for the RV 770? As far as I can see from a quick research Explore is not meant for and cannot be used with Garmin's automotive navigation devices.
