etrex 20 base camp

HI all,
just a silly question of a newbie. I installed base camp with etrex 20 usb connected and afterward I checked filesystem and I found one file of over 3 GB size ( now only few MB left free )
I don't know if base camp installed this map file without asking kind of automatically or if it was already by factory filesystem.
Can you tell me if I can cancel it out with or without problem ?

What is the name of the file? Do you have an SD card installed in the etrex?

BaseCamp won't automatically install a map file. As tmk2 says what is the name of the file? Also does BaseCamp show you have a map installed on your Etrex?

Sorry I forgot to write the name of the file that is "gmapprom.img" and I haven't a sd card yet.

Well that's the main map file, so you either installed it or your Etrex came with it. Surprised though that your free space is so low, mine has way more than that.

it's simple 4GB of internal memory and 3,5 Gb of gmapprom.img. What's wrong with mine etrex 20?

Are you sure that's the Etrex? It has 1.7Gb of memory. If you're looking at something with 4Gb that sounds like a SD card? Some devices are bundled with maps and I suspect you have one of those.

Even if you have the Etrex 20x that only has 3.7 internal memory

denis.matteazzi A ‘gmapprom.img’ is normally a preloaded map on a Garmin device. There were some eTrex bundles that did go out to the market with those maps. I would highly suggest for you to contact Garmin Support and they will able to look up your device by the devices serial number and/or unit id number.
If you are not able to contact us, then the next suggestion would be to plug in your device, allow BaseCamp to load the map from the device. This could take a few minutes to a few hours, it really matters on the PC the device is plug into and the size of the mapping. After it is done loading and is displaying the map, BaseCamp will also tell you the map’s name.

The good news is your device has an SD card and can handle up to a 32gb SD card. Which will hold more mapping then you will ever need. Plus, the internal space on the device is enough to hold all the waypoints and tracks on your device since those are small files.

@SUSSAMB, yes you are right. Mine is etrex 20 x and internal memory is 3,63 GB. Proloaded map (gmapprom.img ) is 3,32 GB, so left 3,1 MB.

It sounds strange to me that they left ony few hundreds MB free. That's all :)

You can always copy the map file to a sd card if you're fussed.
