Basecamp waypoints not working on GPS

Hello,

I have created some routes to follow with the car using Basecamp 4.7. After creating the routes with the waypoints (the tool ‘create a route’, not with the waypoint flags), I loaded the routes into the gps (Garmin) but when I am in the car following the route, the gps doesn’t skip the waypoints once I have passed them, and it keeps taking me back if I don’t skip it manually.

I have used two different gps garmin (drive 51 and drive smart 50LM) so I think the problem could be in the software (mac) or the way I create the waypoints. Any help? Thanks.
  • Check exactly where the waypoints are to ensure they are both on the road, and also not on the wrong side of a divided highway. You will need to zoom in to ensure neither have happened. I create routes all the time and don't have any issue

I made sure all the points are inside the road but still have the problem. It doesn’t happen to just a couple, but to all of the waypoints in all the routes I’ve created.

i have tried uploading the route from both Mac and Windows, but the problem remains.
  • Can you attach a gpx file of the route here, you may need to change the file extension from gpx to an allowed extension, or post a screenshot? Something isn't right as provided you pass a viapoint on a route accurately you shouldn't be directed back to it, that only happens if you miss it by a significant amount.

I should add I haven't, for numerous reasons, upgraded to v4.7 of BaseCamp but haven't heard that this causes issues with routes on devices. You might like to try reverting to 4.6.3 to see if that resolves the problem.

Hello and sorry for the delay. I am following routes everyday and I am trying different things to solve the problem. I still have the same issue though. When following the route, sometimes it seems to work correctly, showing the directions, the distance left on the top corner and the type of exit ahead and skipping the waypoints to the next one. However, The rest of the time it just sends me to the same waypoint and it doesn't indicate the distance left or exits in advance, only the name of the street on the top of the screen. I have reinstalled the software and the maps in the GPS and it didn't work. Could it be the connection to the satellite? Or because the routes are too long? (around 7-8 hours and it splits it in four with 29 waypoints each, total of 660 KB). Regarding the extension, I believe 'gpx' is the allowed one for the device.

How can I downgrade to 4.6.3 on MacOS?

I cannot attached an example of my routes or a screenshot maybe because of the size of the file or that I am not allowed.

    Thanks!!
  • Export a route you're having issues with as a gpx file and attach it here. I'm confused though, are you only having issues with long routes? If so that could indeed be the problem, break them into smaller routes. I'm also struggling to understand why you would have 29 points in each of 4 routes that cover around 8 hours. I have routes that are around 4 hours that only use around 5 points.

You can get 4.6.3 here http://gawisp.com/perry/macintosh/

    Hello,

Find attached a copy of one of my routes. I would appreciate it if you could have a look at it.

I use many waypoints because my goal is to drive through many roads. My Garmin GPS doesn't allow to have routes with more than 29 waypoints so it splits them. I created a small route with a couple of waypoints to try and it seemed to work. However, I still don't understand why, when following my routes, it works for a short time and then it disconnects.

I will also try to downgrade to 4.6.3 if we cannot find a solution.

    Thanks.
  • Wow, that is an amazingly complicated route and I can see why you need to split it up, but I can't see any reason why when split it shouldn't work. I suggest you downgrade to 4.6.3, 4.7 has numerous bugs and the simplest way to see if that is the issue is to downgrade and try 4.6.3

    Hello,

I will try to downgrade to 4.6 because I know that that works. Do I need to install BaseCampforMac_463.dmg only or also Garmin Express? Thanks.
