Maps shown on Garmin GPSmap 62S versus maps shown in Basecamp and JaVaWa.

Basecamp 4.7.0 shows me 7 maps on the 16Gb card in a folder called Maps.
There is another folder called "Maps", apparently not on the 16Gb card. It contains a single map called "Worldwide Autoroute DEM Basemap,NR. However, I have no idea where this second "Maps" folder is on the Garmin device. Can anyone please shed some light on this?

If I connect the GPSmap 62S to the USB port on my Mac, and then browse the "Maps" folder on the 16Gb card from the Mac, an additional 3 maps appear. Why do they not appear in the "Maps" folder shown on the 16Gb card within Basecamp?

JaVaWa Device Manager, which I have only just downloaded and installed, shows the 7 + 3 maps and therefore "agrees" with the number (and identity) of the maps I find by simply browsing the 16Gb card directly from the Mac. However, if I try and select any map in JavVaWa, I get the error message of "OutOfBOundsException in module wlmgFiles.SelChange" and can therefore cannot do anything with JaVaWa at all. I do not know what this error message means, but is there a way to fix the error?

If I go to the Map tab at the top of the Mac screen in Basecamp, 19 maps appear, of which 12 are not on the 16Gb card as shown within Basecamp, and of which 9 do not appear on the 16Gb card when I browse it directly from the Mac.

Are these difference due to some maps perhaps being installed directly in Basecamp on the Mac, but not on the Garmin GPS device?

I was and am hoping to rename some of the maps, but have not got that far yet.

I apologise for asking such basic questions, but find these differences rather confusing.

Thank you in advance for your help.

OK. I have worked out that the second Maps folder is on the volume Garmin/Garmin.

This is still something of a mystery to me.

I would like to resolve this issue and get JaVaWa working if possible.

I see now that most of the maps not do not appear on the GPS device are located in /Users/MyUserName/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps

  • OK, a few issues here.

To get JaVaWa Device Manager working try uninstalling then reinstalling it, directly from the website so you know your version is up to date. I've never had it not run correctly so unsure what your particular problem might be.

Your map tab in BaseCamp will show both maps installed to your computer for BC to use and maps on your device when it's connected, so that's why there is a difference in numbers.

Some maps on devices have a flag set so they don't appear in BaseCamp, that's why you're seeing less on your device/card when viewed in BC. JaVaWa Device Manager allows you to set maps so that they are visible in BC.
