Basecamp will not open unlocked City Navigator North America NT 2019.20

Today I updated City Navigator North America NT 2019.10 to 2019.20 in my Nuvi devices and in my MacBook with MacOS 10.13.5, using Garmin Express. Although City Navigator North America NT 2019.20 maps are installed in the Garmin folder for Application Support, and the file is marked as unlocked when viewed in Garmin Map Manager, Basecamp 4.7.0 will not recognize 2019.20. It will only open 2019.20 from a GPS device connected to the MacBook.

I reinstalled City Navigator North America NT 2019.20 to the computer from the GPS device, but that did not fix the problem.

I want to be able to use 2019.20 in Basecamp for Mac without having to retrieve a GPS unit from a car.

Can anyone help?
  • Update: Finally, I decided to chuck Basecamp altogether and use Furkot. I deleted all the Express files, the Basecamp application files and the City Navigator North America NT 2019.20 files in the Library Application and Support and Preferences folders. I reinstalled Express last night, and discovered Garmin was screwing around with Express update to 6.6.0 via their website and via the prior version of Express (that they offered as the latest version simultaneous to 6.6.0) that was downloading at the same time I was trying to update, causing confusion over what the hell was going on. Confused? So was I!

Once that was sorted, on a lark, I downloaded Basecamp a second time, and then reinstalled City Navigator North America NT 2019.20 a fourth time. Only now did Basecamp open 2019.20 this morning.

The support person I spoke to while the Express update attempts were going on hadn't a clue, and would go silent on the phone when I pointed out faulty instructions for navigating Mac files and the odd conflicts occurring during the repeated Express downloads. The explanation provided when I pressed for an answer was: only a select few were allowed access to 6.6.0, which is why the downloads kept changing versions. Does that ring true?
