Basecamp routes do not show up on RV 770

I'm using Basecamp 4.6.3 (at least I try) on a Mac to create routes for my RV 770. So far I have created two trips and then transferred them to the RV 770. However, they don't show up on the device in Trip Planner. What I noticed when transferring them (one by one) was that the transfer processes took not even one second each which I think is rather short.

Does anybody here know or have an idea how to fix this?

Should I see these routes anywhere on the mounted Garmin volume (they are not in the GPX folder)?

Thanks.

I have now one of the two routes also showing up on the device. No idea how that happened. I transferred the other route several more times, checked the cable (it's the original Garmin cable), used a different USB port - nothing helped so far. Not a very pleasant experience, I must say.
  • Well a couple of thoughts. First are you sending tracks or routes? Your device, in common with most On the road devices, cannot read tracks. Second, if in BaseCamp you send a route, then send another one, it can overwrite the first. Either send both together or ensure you've imported the first before you send the second.

Incidentally the transfer time for one route is quick, so what you see there is normal.

The routes sent will be within a file called temp.gpx in the GPX folder of the device. It should have the date/time stamp of when you sent it.

    I'm sending routes.

In the left pane of Basecamp, where the routes are listed, I can select only one route at a time or the whole collection. I just now sent the collection and the time stamp of the temp.gpx file changed. But there is still only one of the two routes in the Imported Trips section of Trip Planner.

    Any other ideas?

I wonder whether it might help to delete the temp.gpx file. Could this harm the device, or is it worth a try?
  • No, it can't harm the device. How are you trying to select multiple routes though? Standard Mac actions for selecting work.

If for some reason they don't (unique to you) what I would do is send one, disconnect your device and import that route. Then reconnect and send the other. If one won't import something is wrong with whichever doesn't import.

Keep in mind that some users have reported that Basecamp does not support some safety avoidance area routing (e.g. Propane). Basecamp is not being updated, but it is possible that RV 770 firmware has been upgraded to ignore waypoints in the avoidance areas rather than crashing during import calculations.

I deleted the tmp.gpx file and sent all three routes again to the device (I solved the riddle about selecting several routes; I had just been looking in the wrong place). A new tmp.gpx file got created with exactly the same size as the old one. None of these routes show up on the device,

I am, however, wondering about "sending to device" and "importing" - are these two different things? I thought it's the same. If I have to import after sending, how would I do that? I don't see anywhere in Trip Planner an option to import. There are only two buttons - "Saved Trips" and "New Trip" (and "Back" in the side bar).
  • Your device should automatically import the routes. Can you attach the gpx file here so I can look at it.

Note you send it from BaseCamp. Import in BC is for importing files into BC.

    Here it is. (Attachment deleted.)
  • That file is fine, it contains three routes around Phoenix. Are you giving your device time to import the routes? Once the file is there it will take a while before they appear in Trip Planner.

My other thought is have you tried using a different activity profile in BaseCamp in case that is causing issues?
