Can Basecamp be used to upload waypoints (favorites) and routes to the latest generation of Garmin GPS units (i.e. the DriveSmart 51/61 series?) Thanks!
As far as I'm aware there is no plan to develop BaseCamp further or replace it.
That's unfortunate, but I guess they know their market. Thanks for the update. What are the other options for planning a multi-day (or even multi-week) trip? Just the built-in Trip Planner?
Well Mapsource which was discontinued years ago still works and is available, so BaseCamp will be around for many years yet. I plan to use it until it no longer works which hopefully is also many years away.

Because this is in the Mac section, I wish to point out that BaseCamp, as a 32-bit app, is already obsolete and may not work with the next 64-bit version(s) of the Mac OS. I will be out of luck when that happens, as I have tons of great routes stored in BC for motorcycle touring.
One alternative I've found is Furkot (furkot.com). Its planning and mapping tools are in many ways superior to BC, but as with any map other than Garmin's own, when you export from Furkot and load a route into your Garmin GPS, there will be glitches. How many depends on a lot of variables, but for a long ride it can be a PITA.
That's very unfortunate. I have an old PC around that I can use, or I'm running Windows under Parallels as well, so for now that will be my backup plan. Thanks everyone for the information!
